The murals show the internal link Tannhäuser saga. As in the opera of the same name, this is linked with the Singers' Contest on the Wartburg. The king worked at the large table in the centre of the room, on which his writing set still stands. The cupboard was used to store the castle plans and drafts of Neuschwanstein. Elaborate carvings cover the beams and consoles of the ceiling.
